Goderich Mayor Hopes To Work With Premier-Designate

Goderich | by Peter Jackson
Mayor Kevin Morrison says Doug Ford's political experience as city councillor a positive for Ontario.

The Mayor of Goderich looks forward to working more closely with Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, and the new majority PC government under Premier-Designate Doug Ford.

Morrison tells Country 104.9 News that he has worked well with Thompson in the past, and that he will request a face-to-face meeting with Ford in the coming weeks.

He had also met with former Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne in the past.

Morrison says he will work toward forming a partnership with the new provincial government.

He stresses that working with the province is a two-way street, and that he's not asking for a financial handout from Queen's Park.

Morrison is encouraged that Ford's political experience comes from serving as a City Councillor in Toronto, and believes the best provincial and federal politicians come from municipal backgrounds.

He says he and Ford share similar beliefs in treating people fairly, and advocating for more affordable housing.

Morrison hopes Ontarians will give Ford a chance, and see what the Progressive Conservative government can accomplish.

The Mayor's comments followed Monday's Council meeting.
