The Huron County Health Unit is taking a dual approach to this month's legalization of marijuana.
Protecting the public from the harmful effects of pot, and preventing/delaying youth from partaking in marijuana consumption will be the goal of health officials, come October 17th.
Public Health Promoter Jacqueline Uprichard recommends avoiding cannabis use before driving or operating heavy machinery, limiting cannabis use, or avoiding it altogether.
Marijuana use in the province will be regulated through the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, which will also allow its use in the same areas as cigarettes.
The province is also allowing municipalities to opt-out of allowing storefront businesses to sell recreational pot, something Uprichard says the Health Unit can provide broader details on.
Updated information will be provided through the Huron County Health Unit as it becomes available.
