Goderich Council To Discuss Beach Area Issues

Goderich | by Peter Jackson
Town Councillors describe the situation as a "free for all" and "chaotic"

Goderich Council is looking to address a number of issues arising at the town's three beaches.

Several Councillors spoke up Monday, and called for suggestions to solve lakefront problems.

That will likely happen during a strategic planning meeting in mid- to late-September.

Councillor Trevor Bazinet says issues from illegal RV parking to traffic backups and littering along Cove Road are multiplying with the increasing number of visitors.

While Bazinet says more people coming to Goderich is not a bad thing, he adds that the town's By-Law Enforcement Officer has pointed out numerous instances where the Town needs to step in.

Bazinet calls on the By-Law Enforcement Officer to draw up a report for Council, with recommendations on what can be done to better regulate the situation starting next year.

He says the Town's hands are tied on a number of visitor activities by the lake, because there are only one or two by-laws to regulate the area.

Councillor Stephen Tamming told Council the situation by the beach is "chaotic", while Councillor Matt Hoy verbally backs Bazinet's call for further action.
