Huron-Perth Health Unit Merger On Schedule

Huron-Perth | by Peter Jackson
The two public health agencies are set to join forces on December 31st

A member of the Huron County Board of Health is confident the December 31st deadline will be met, for the Huron County and Perth District Health Units to merge.

Goderich Deputy-Mayor Myles Murdock says the Huron and Perth Boards met recently, and were scheduled to meet again this week, with the merger date less than two months away.

He says there have been some stumbling blocks in the talks, mainly dealing with the different set-ups of the two public health agencies.

Murdock says the Huron County Health Unit is administered by the County, while the Perth District Health Unit is a stand-alone entity.

He says the Perth board is separate from the County, because it serves larger urban areas like Stratford, as well as a large rural population.

Murdock says because the new Huron-Perth Health Unit will also be a stand-alone agency, decisions will have to be made on a number of services in Huron that don't directly impact public health delivery programs.
