Huron Council Looking At Rural Transit Proposal

The proposed service would link Bluewater communities with London and Sarnia

Huron County Council is awaiting a staff report on a proposal by the Huron Shores Transit Committee, to set up a bus service that would link communities in Bluewater with London and Sarnia.

The County's Chief Administrative Officer, Meighan Wark says Huron has been approached with the idea, but not for financial support.

Councillor Paul Klopp says he has learned a lot about the proposal in a relatively short time, and Bluewater Council supports it.

Klopp says a rural transit service would be an important addition for small communities, and for area residents who don't own a vehicle.

He hopes Huron County endorses the proposal.

Director of Economic Development Cody Joudry says the Huron Shores Transit Committee received a $2 million provincial grant over five years for a pilot project in 2019.

The proposed service has been in the works for almost three years.
