NBA

The number of known coronavirus cases connected to the NBA has escalated to 14 

Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics revealed that he tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers said 2 of their players tested positive.

The Philadelphia 76ers said 3 members of their organization tested positive and the Denver Nuggets said someone within their franchise was also positive.

 


Sale

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale will have Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, which will keep him out of the 2020 baseball season.

Initially, it was reported Sale had a flexor strain near the elbow and would avoid the operation that usually requires at least a full year of rehab.

Sale was 6 & 11 last year and has won more than 100 games in his Major League career.

 


MLS

Major League Soccer announced yesterday it was extending its suspension of play for 8 weeks in accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

The new target date for North American soccer to return is May 10th

Initially, MLS announced a 30-day suspension of activity on March 14th

To this point, every MLS club has played 2 matches.

Toronto FC had a win and a draw in their two outings

 


CFL

It's uncertain if Canadian Football league training camps will open on schedule.

The league is examining contingency plans and reportedly told teams yesterday that only players rehabbing injuries can be at their training facilities

Currently, rookie camps are scheduled to open May 13th with training camps to follow May 17.

 

 

Newton

The Carolina Panthers of the National Football League may be forced to release quarterback Cam Newton if they cannot find a trade partner.

The Panthers signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater this week and once his physical is taken care of, Newton could be released.

Newton, a former NFL MVP was limited to just 2 games last season due to a foot injury. 

 

Gurley

The Los Angeles Rams of the NFL released running back Todd Gurley yesterday

Gurley appeared in 15 games last season, rushing for 857 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns.

He led the league in TDs in both 2017 & 2018 

With the release, the Rams free up significant money for their salary cap

 

F1

The Monaco Grand Prix was cancelled Thursday plus 2 other Formula One races were postponed.

Scheduled for May 24th, the Monaco Grand Prix has been held every year since 1955

The Automobile Club de Monaco said in a statement Thursday evening that the race could not be rescheduled.

The Dutch GP was scheduled for May 3rd & Spain was set to follow on May 10th

 

 

Bayshore Race 

The Earlybird deadline for Bayshore Race registration is Tuesday March 31st. 

The annual event which serves as a fundraiser for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital is Sunday August 30th.
