Promoting Huron Manufacturing

Huron County | by Rick Stow
Huron County manufacturer's will open doors to students to promote local jobs.

Manufacturing in Huron County is aggressively promoted by the Huron Manufacturing Association, an organization established in 2004.

Monica Walker-Bolton serves as the group's secretary, in association with the County's Planning and Development Department.

She tells us one of her missions is to organize an annual series of School-Industry Tours.

Walker-Bolton says every Spring, three manufacturers in the County open their doors to Huron County students for an hour's tour of their facilities.

The events highlight each plant, and help with workforce retention by showing students there are quality manufacturing jobs available locally.

Walker-Bolton says another way to highlight the activities of the firms is to produce a manufacturing directory, both in hard copy and on-line.

She says this helps the manufacturers order commodities from their peers locally, thus boosting commerce within the County.

Walker-Bolton says the other value of the directory is to show off Huron County's manufacturing resources to the world.

She says an annual tradition with the HMA is its Manufacturing Excellence Awards, and this year's banquet will be held at the new Community Centre in Clinton.

The Manufacturing Excellence Awards will take place November 15th.

Walker-Bolton says Huron County is a committed participant in the HMA, contributing fifty-nine thousand dollars to its annual budget.
