Huron County has given the thumbs up to Goderich's plan to construct a four-storey hotel and conference centre.
In December, the town made changes to its Official Plan document, allowing the former Victoria Public School property to be used as grounds for a Best Western hotel.
Finalizing the change meant support was needed from Huron County councillors, which was granted at Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
Mayor Kevin Morrison says the hotel development is not only good for Goderich, but all of Huron County.
Next in the hotel's development is the site plan, which will lay out how the hotel will sit on the 135 Gibbons Street lot.
Morrison says the developers hope to have shovels in the ground this Spring.
He also thanks former Warden Paul Gowing for being present at several key meetings with developers, to ensure the project moved forward.
