Flyers Fall To Hawks

Goderich | by Peter Jackson
Goderich's rookie first line clicks for two goals in 7-3 loss; Mitchell's Jarrett Bogdon nets five goals

The Goderich Flyers tried to make a game of it, but the Mitchell Hawks were a step ahead for most of the night in a 7-3 Provincial Junior Hockey League victory Friday.

The rookie line of the Treble twins and Chase Meurs were the story of the night at the Maitland Rec centre, as Chad Treble scored twice with assists from Cody Treble and Meurs on both goals.

Chad Treble's first goal came at 5:28 of the second period, and brought the Flyers within a goal of Mitchell, who led 3-0 after one period of play.

He netted his second marker just 35 seconds into the third period, to cut the Hawks' lead to 6-3.

Trent Buchanan and Noah Nurse set up Matt Bean for Goderich's first goal, and the only special team goal for either club with 14:49 left in the middle frame.

Goaltenders Brandon Bean and Jacob Abbott combined to make 27 saves in the loss, which drops the Flyers into a sixth-place tie with Hanover in the PJHL Pollock Division.

Goderich and Hanover have identical 3-12-0-and-2 records, with the Flyers scoring 51 goals to the Barons' 40 through 17 games -- both have 88 goals against.

Jarrett Bogdon had the night of his Junior career, scoring five goals to lead Mitchell -- Jamie Shoemaker and Blake Pickering rounded out the Hawks' scoring.

The Flyers travel to Walkerton Saturday and return home to host Walkerton at MRC on Sunday November 19th, while Mitchell visits Kincardine for a matinee game this Sunday.

In other PJHL Pollock Division play Friday, Jamie Brock made 37 saves as Wingham shut out Kincardine 3-0 and Spencer Elder scored the game-winner in Walkerton's 7-4 victory over Mount Forest.

The Patriots and Walkerton now share first place with 28 points each.

In the PJHL Yeck Division, goaltender Dane Gubbels paced the Exeter Hawks with a 26-save performance in an 8-0 victory over North Middlesex at the South Huron Rec Centre Friday.
