Goderich BIA says 2017 Strong Year For Business

Goderich | by Peter Jackson
Many local visitors from Bayfield, while many long distance travellers hailed from B.C..

The Downtown Goderich BIA is emerging from a busy year in 2017, with a full slate of activities and projects set for this year.

BIA Manager Susan Armstrong tells us they were surprised by a survey of visitors to the downtown area conducted last summer.

The survey found most locals who visited last year were from Bayfield, while British Columbia residents made up half of those surveyed from other parts of Canada.

Armstrong points to the real eye-opener, which was the number of international vacationers who stopped in downtown Goderich last summer.

Americans from 16 states stopped by -- 35 per-cent of them from Michigan and another 15 per-cent from Ohio.

She says 83 per-cent of international visitors to downtown Goderich were from the US with vacationers from Australia, Sweden, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands rounding out the survey total.

Armstrong notes that the information will help the BIA better target their advertising and promotions for 2018 and future years.
