The former Holmesville Public School property has a new owner.
The Avon-Maitland District School Board has successfully concluded the sale of the property to a private buyer.
Manager of Communications Steve Howe says details of the transaction will not be made public until the deal closes in late November.
The sale of Holmesville Public quickly follows the transfer of the former Victoria Public School in Goderich to the municipality for 600-thousand dollars earlier this month.
Avon-Maitland has also sold the former Wingham Public School to the Municipality of North Huron and the old Turnberry Public School to the Township of Morris-Turnberry.
Provincial regulations dictate if no interest is shown in surplus school buildings offered to municipalities and other school boards — then an auction is held.
If the auction reserve price is not met then individuals are invited to submit sealed bids to the board.
Howe says no interest was shown in the old Holmesville property by municipal or educational parties and then the reserve price in a later auction was not met.
Holmesville Public School closed as the result of consolidation stemming from an Avon-Maitland accommodation review to address shrinking elementary enrolment.
