A story that began in the 1970s with the Hindmarsh family gift of seven acres to the local Girl Guides has come full circle — the Goderich Lions Club has bought the Black Point property home.
But Lion Mike Alcock says the club still needs help to complete needed renovations.
He told Goderich Council that Klahanie had operated under the auspices of local Guiding, often assisted by the Lions Club, but ownership of the Camp was held by Girl Guides Canada.
In 2009 Provincial Office closed the Camp and put it up for sale.
The Lions Club has been able to purchase the camp for $110,000 — and hopes to operate it on behalf of local youth.
As a result it will become a co-ed camp and facility upgrades will be necessary.
Lion Mike Alcock’s request to Council’s November 4th meeting was referred to the Town’s budget process.
