The wait is finally over — “Beach Street Station” is now open.
After roughly two years, the new restaurant on the waterfront in Goderich became a realty Friday afternoon.
Herb Marshall says it has cost over two million dollars to move the 400 ton 1907 former CPR station some 300 yards down to the water and renovate it into a restaurant.
Marshall tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they ran into some issues with the foundation and had to go down 22 feet to put in a new foundation.
A lot of renovation work was done on the inside to restore the building.
The restaurant has seating for about 100 people inside and about 75 on the patio outside.
It will start off with a limited menu, but Marshall hopes to have the full menu available by mid July.
He is also the owner of the Park House restaurant which overlooks Lake Huron at Goderich.
Marshall believes moving the CPR station down to the waterfront will help with resurrecting the area and he wouldn’t be surprised if a hotel was eventually built down by the water.
