Huron County will be looking at their homeless population.
Housing Services Manager Barb Hall says all Service Managers in Ontario are now legislated to look at the enumeration of their homeless population.
Hall says they have chosen to use a method called period prevalence count.
She says they will be engaging the support of agencies and organizations that offer front line services.
Hall says they are looking to start the study in the spring of 2018.
She adds, nothing like this has been done along Ontario’s West Coast before.
Hall says there is a “hidden homeless population” in the county.
She points to many couch surfers.
Hall says there is not a visible presence of homelessness in the county because of the lack of shelters.
She says they hope to use the information for future programming.
Huron County ran an emergency shelter last winter, and Hall says they hope to have another one this winter.
