The general manager of the Goderich YMCA is defending the facility's user rate structure, in the face of criticism from some members of the community and several town Councillors.
Anne Marie Thomson Monday presented a detailed report on the cost of running Y programs, and how it compares with other similar facilities in the area.
At an earlier Council meeting, concern was expressed over the cost of using the walking track above the Maitland Rec Centre ice surface.
Thomson says there is no separate charge for the walking track.
She told Council that the charge is included in an overall day pass rate of $11 plus HST, which totals $13.
A comparison was made with a similar set-up at the arena in Clinton, where the Y operates a fitness centre.
She points out that the track is in the public portion of the Clinton arena building, while the fitness centre runs on Y membership fees.
At the Maitland Rec Centre, the walking track can be accessed only by Y members and day-pass holders.
Responding to a suggestion by Councillor Trevor Bazinet that a few hours a day be set aside for seniors to use the MRC walking track for free, Thomson says it's something the Y board could look at.
