Wiarton Willie is calling for an early spring.
The Bruce Peninsula’s famous prognosticating groundhog didn’t see his shadow this morning, and relayed the news to South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Garry Michi at exactly 8:07 a.m.
Hundreds of people were on hand outside the Wiarton Arena for Willie’s prediction this morning, in a return to an in-person event after a two-year absence.
Wiarton Willie’s call bucked the trend of some other well-known groundhogs.
Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil and Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam called for six more weeks of winter.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will be hosting its annual Wiarton Willie Festival on Saturday at Bluewater Park. A skating rink, human foosball and many other family friendly activities are planned.
