As Huron County Council gets closer to adopting the budget for 2024, discussions regarding county departments continue.
During this week’s council meeting, they heard from the Homes for the Aged department.
This year, the department was hoping to make upgrades to both Huronlea and Huronview, including new generators, which would have a price tag of $1.8 million.
The homes are also hoping to add new walk-in freezers to each home to help kitchen staff.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Services department is looking to replace two ambulances that are getting toward the end of their service lifespan. Council is looking at other ways to ensure that the vehicles are in good working order instead of replacing them outright.
Council will have more budget discussions during the Day 1 meeting scheduled for February 7th, where they will be able to ask any additional questions and discuss changes that could be made ahead of budget adoption.
A special council meeting is scheduled for February 14th, where the council will decide upon the final 2024 budget to be adopted.
