Huron County will be looking for potential partnerships for a new paramedic base slated to be built in Seaforth.
A report was presented to council from the Emergency Services department, as discussions began about what sort of amenities would be needed for the new base.
The new base would not only be built to house current services, but also have room for future growth should the county require more ambulances and staff.
The county was informed in 2019 that it would be prudent to add a base in Seaforth to allow for response times.
In the report, minimum requirements were outlined for a new paramedic base, including room for a minimum of eight vehicles, space to accommodate up to four paramedics, three community paramedics, and two superintendents, a training room, offices, and a kitchen area.
In 2008, the province started to look at response time criteria based more on medical outcomes than just on response times. Due to provincial requirements, it was deemed that operations from the Tuckersmith station be moved to a new facility in Seaforth. Such a facility would also need to be either larger or have room to be expanded, in the event that expansion at Bayfield or Zurich was not possible.
Council accepted the report for future discussion when fully developed plans come forward.
