The jobless rate in Huron County ticked upward for the first month of 2026.
The latest report from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region rose from 4 per cent in December, to 4.9 per cent in January.
Despite the rise in the jobless rate, unemployment in Huron, Perth, Grey, and Bruce counties remains below the provincial average of 7.1 per cent.
Estimates show a growth of 4.8 per cent in part-time work, and a decline of 1.1 per cent in full-time employment.
The planning board says the agriculture sector led the way in job losses for January.
