The death of a worker 15 months ago while on the job, has led to charges against Westario Power under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ministry of Labour spokesperson Matt Blajer says the case will come to Walkerton court on Jan. 16th for a trial date to be set.
Blajer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News Westario power could face a maximum fine of half a million dollars.
Back on September 21st, 2010 — Brodie Schwartz was electrocuted while working in a Port Elgin power substation.
Blajer says after a lengthy investigation, charges were filed against Westario Power on July 26th of this year.
He says it is Ministry policy not to send out a news release on charges being filed, only when a conviction is handed down.
Westario is charged with: failing to provide information regarding a single-line diagram of the substation, failing to ensure industry standards were followed and failure to ensure the power supply was cut before work was done.
Schwartz was a member of CUPE local 255 and worked as a power line technician.
