Barrie company Brotech Precision CNC and Bruce Power have entered into a 10-year agreement.
Brotech will supply shield plug assemblies for Bruce Power’s upcoming Major Component Replacement Project.
Brotech was established in 1995 and serves the nuclear, aerospace, defense, medical, oil & gas and automotive industries. It employs over 50 people and its products are exported globally.
Bruce Power manager of Communications and Media Relations John Peevers says, as part of the agreement, Brotech will set up a facility local to Bruce Power to assemble and test components, and perform CNC or ultra-high precision metal manufacturing to support Bruce Power’s long-term requirements.
He also notes, Brotech has become a sort of training ground for young CNC machinists.
Peevers says, Brotech has been working with the Simcoe County school boards to groom apprentices, and with Georgian College to groom co-op students and graduates.
Jerome Horowitz, Brotech Vice President and partner, says at least half of their employees came through Georgian College or an apprentice program.
Meanwhile, Bruce Power’s President and CEO Mike Rencheck points out the local advantage, “By forming these partnerships with our suppliers, we have secured Made in Ontario solutions for the components we will need to successfully complete our MCR projects, extending the life of our site to 2064.”
The Bruce Power Major Component Replacement will begin in Unit 6 in 2020, followed by Units 3 through 8, extending the life of the site to 2064.
