Two senior care facilities in Huron County are expanding.
Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson announced 69 new spaces and 91 upgraded spaces for Maitland Manor in Goderich, along with 27 new spaces and 69 upgraded spaces for the Braemar Retirement Centre, in Wingham.
The announcements were part of Ontario’s $933 million investment in similar projects province wide.
Thompson tells Country 104.9 News the upgrades have been a long-time coming.
“We have been talking for some time in terms of recognizing our numbers are growing when it comes to seniors in Huron County,” Thompson says.
“I’ve been advocating with the Minister of Long Term Care that there is a need throughout the riding of Huron-Bruce.”
Thompson also expects the long-term care expansion will meet the future needs of the region.
“They [staff] feel very good that the projected new beds — in combination with the upgraded beds — will certainly meet the needs.”
