The Menesetung Bridge Association provided an update to Huron County council about the rehabilitation work being completed on the bridge.
Association treasurer Michael Dawson shared with council that the first phase of planned work will begin this month, but that the association is also looking to raise another $180,000 to fund the second phase.
Dawson shared that while they have appealed to community partners and local councils for additional funding, they haven’t been successful thus far.
The association has also been offered a bank loan, but because of the amount would have interest rates to contend with too. Additionally, the suggested loan would need to be repaid in 2026, so they would need to continue to fundraise.
Council then voted on a motion to give $300,000 in funding to the Menesetung Bridge Association to fund the work, which was declined.
A second motion came forward to provide an interest-free loan to the association, which was also rejected by council.
