There may be a delay in a new gym coming to Canada’s Prettiest Town.
World Gym was slated to open in one of the spaces left vacant in Suncoast Mall, when Zellers shuttered its doors in 2013.
Since the closure, two businesses were announced to be taking over a portion of the leftover space: Hart Stores, which opened in November of 2016, and World Gym.
During the official opening of Hart, Mayor Kevin Morrison told The Beach News World Gym had received its occupancy permit, and town staff were waiting to approve layout plans.
As of this week, Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator James Cox says the town has not received any applications for the development of World Gym at the mall.
That does not mean the gym is not coming.
Cox says the town has not heard from Suncoast Mall management “recently,” but nothing can be confirmed until an application has been made.
Because the owners of Suncoast Mall are responsible for managing the building’s stores, the town is awaiting word from them, as opposed to World Gym officials.
